Hard To Curl Hair Solution – A Cheap Hair Curler Rave! ^v^

July 20, 2015

Being back in Hong Kong for the summer, I have been busy juggling between my law internship, spending time with my family and friends, and applying for training contracts (life of a law student sigh pie… You are supposed to apply for job placements two years before you finish your education WHAT IS LIFE :O)
However, I have been wanting to share with you a new hair curler that I recently found and am absolutely in love with 🙂 I have dead straight hard to curl hair, especially when I get out of the shower after washing my hair (it is completely flat and straight and sticks to my face) and using my old hair curler, it would take me at least 45 to 50 minutes to curl my hair. I would do one curl, hold my hair to the barrel for around 20 seconds, drop the curl, do another curl, hold for another 20 seconds, and by the time the second curl is done the first curl would have fallen and become straight again (sounds familiar??).
I have never really liked my old hair curler that much to start with as I found it a little (actually very) inefficient and when I saw the Remington Silk Curling Wand on sale at Boots for £16, I thought I might as well give it a try. I didn’t really have big expectations for this curling wand (because of the price) but I thought if it doesn’t work great, I can always return it.
When I got home to try it for the first time, I was SHOCKED. Either this curling wand is really great or my old one was way too crappy because instead of holding my hair for 20 seconds to the wand, it only took about 4-6 seconds for a perfect curl to form! 😀 I did my whole head of curls really fast and instead of the usual 45-60 minutes, it only took me 10 minutes (or even less!) This is a game changer for me because I have never in my life thought that I would be able to curl my hair in such a short period of time and the fact that the curler was only £16 is amazing ♡
I told my friend Melissa about this curler and she quickly took advantage of the sales at Boots at the time and picked up another Remington hair curler. She purchased a slightly different one though called the Silk Waving Wand which instead of having a circular barrel, has a flatter rectangular(ish) barrel that creates amazing waves ♡ I had a try of her waving wand and think it works just as great as my curling wand – although it takes a slightlyyyy longer time for a wave/curl to form for my hair type 🙂
Here is a list of pros and cons that I came up with for this curler: ♡
Pros:
♡Fast to heat up (takes less than 5 minutes for it to fully heat up!) and realtively fast to cool down
♡Digital temperature setting available (Highest being 220°C and lowest being 170°C – I always use the 220°C setting to speed things up)
♡Curls your hair in the speed of light (TEHEHE :P)
♡Great for long hair (I had hair way pass boob-length and I could still wrap all my hair around the barrel)

♡Easy to travel with (you get a travel bag for your curling wand as seen in the pictures above)

Cons:
♡Creates really structured curls that take quite a long time fall into waves (I usually want waves instead of curls so what I do is I take a brush and brush all my curls out thoroughly so that they can fall into waves faster)
♡If you are not used to using a curling wand – you might burn yourself (it comes with a protective glove though so this is not a huge problem!)

I realise that this curling wand is no longer on sale at Boots and is now back to its original price at £25.99 🙁 I would definitely still recommend this curler at £25.99, although it is probably going to go back on sale in the future if you keep an eye out for it 🙂

And that’s about it! I have clearly rambled on way too long about this curler haha ♡ Check it out if you have the chance and I will be back shortly with posts about Hong Kong! 😀
