Jacq and the City

Birthday in the City – Staycation at the Peninsula Hong Kong, celebrations at home!

November 14, 2020

Another year, another birthday. I could have sworn I just turned 24 a hot minute ago, but then the past year (especially 2020) has felt a bit like a blur so I am not surprised!

I celebrated my birthday last year with a staycay in Hong Kong and this year was no different, except I did two of them!

The boyfie and I saw that the Peninsula was doing this amazing staycation package where your room/ suite comes with three meals at no extra cost and we immediately booked it for my birthday.

Not long after, we saw that the Upper House was doing a buy one night get one night free discount that was too tempting to pass up, so we booked that too 😝

No regrets at all as both staycations were absolutely wonderful and we had such a blast 😍

We got ourselves a suite at the Peninsula for this special occasion and I was so excited to be staying there for the first time!

I was dumbfounded by all these rose petals in our bedroom!!😻  The boyfie told me that the Peninsula staff contacted him and helped him set everything up after they learnt we were staying there for my birthday. They were so incredible!

Also found these sitting on the coffee table when we first walked in! 😃

The Typhoon no. 8 signal was up the morning of my birthday/ our staycay and we had to change our original lunch plans since the restaurant we booked was going to be closed for the entire day.

We called the Peninsula and asked if everything was running as usual and to our relief, it was – including all their restaurants!

After dropping off our bags, we headed downstairs to Chesa, a cozy Swiss restaurant which apparently serves really good cheese fondue.

We last had Swiss cuisine when we went on a ski trip last Christmas to Wengen (speaking of which I really need to do a blogpost on that! Our ski trip was probably one of the best trips of my life p.e.r.i.o.d. 😮 ) and Chesa totally reminded me of the cute Swiss chalets up on the Alps. 😍

And that was it! Our last-minute lunch plans all wrapped up in a bow with a pretty birthday dessert platter. 🎊  Definitely a meal to remember!

We headed back to our suite after lunch and pretty much spent the entire afternoon watching TV until it was dinner-time.

Since eating out for dinner was still not allowed at the time due to COVID restrictions, we had a nice, chill dinner in our suite with a bottle of wine hehe.

I was convinced the night was over when I heard a knock on the door and this INCREDIBLE looking chocolate cake appeared in front of my eyes! 😋

A pretty awesome way to end the day if you ask me!

We woke up the next day feeling pretty full from the cheese fondue and dinner and cakes we had the day before, but since breakfast was included in our package, we rushed down to the Lobby Lounge and made it to breakfast just in time before the hotel served lunch.

Breakfast like all the other meals we had at the hotel was plentiful. Our breakfast set came with fruits, juices, teas and coffees, eggs, oatmeal/ granola, and 50 million croissants 😂  Needless to say we were more than satisfied!

We headed out for a relaxing stroll by the Victoria Harbour after breakfast, before heading back for one last meal – afternoon tea! 🙈

By this point we were beyond full, but since afternoon tea was also included in our package, we happily made our way to the Verandah, a beautiful spot to enjoy our afternoon tea before saying bye!

I’ll save the Upper House for another time! It’s my favourite hotel ever and I’ve been lucky enough to have stayed there a few times so it definitely deserves its own blogpost haha 💕

And that was it for my birthday celebrations this year! 2020 has no doubt been a challenging year and I felt really lucky that I was able to spend my birthday with most of my friends and family in person at home (missing my brother though who is all the way in London stuck in lockdown!).

No birthday wishes this year other than for everyone to stay healthy and positive! It’s been a different kind of birthday but I’ve never felt more blessed 😍
