21-Day Hotel Quarantine in Hong Kong Recap

April 5, 2022

Post-quarantine drinks at our quarantine hotel! <3

Last year was a crazy year to say the least. I flew to London with my friend Steph in the midst of the pandemic to do some law exams, oh and yes – spent 21 days (and my 26th birthday πŸ˜…) in a hotel room in Hong Kong quarantining afterwards haha 😫

Unfortunately, international travel out of Hong Kong nowadays is still a major pain in the butt πŸ˜₯Β  Everyone has to quarantine at a designated hotel when they arrive back in Hong Kong even if they tested negative for Covid on arrival (21 days for me since the UK was considered high risk at the time T_T)Β  – so not fun 😭  The Hong Kong government recently reduced all quarantine periods on arrival to 7 days at a designated hotel so at least there’s that :’)Β

Hong Kong International Airport – passing through immigration, doing our COVID tests and waiting for our negative results before we could be transferred to our quarantine hotelΒ

I’m usually good at being alone (introvert perks πŸ’˜ ) but 21 days all by myself locked up in a hotel room was quite something else 😬

I stayed atΒ Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers (which, unfortunately for those of you looking for a place to quarantine at, is no longer a designated quarantine hotel) for my 21-day hotel quarantine and my quarantine experience turned out to be pretty enjoyable!

Sheraton’s entrance and lobby – major zombie apocalypse vibes o__o

Room

The room I stayed at was around 27sqm which was pretty spacious for Hong Kong standards. It was extremely clean and there was plenty of room for working and exercising! I ended up using the extra space beside my bed as my exercise / “lounge” area. The windows were pretty massive and I had tons of natural sunlight during the day.

I was lucky and got assigned to a room that faced Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui so I got to see the hustle and bustle of the city which was awesome 😻 My mom and my boyfriend would also wave at me from the street right below whenever they passed by which was so cute πŸ˜πŸ’“.

There was a big work desk in the room right next to the windows with a comfy office chair so working from the hotel was not a problem. The bathroom also had a bathtub and my friend Charlotte sent me some bath bombs from Lush so I got to take some awesome bubble baths πŸ˜πŸ’™

There was also a bunch of cleaning products sitting in the bathroom when I arrived since no one was allowed to come inside our rooms while we were quarantining and we had to clean everything (clothes, dishes, the toilet, etc.) ourselves.

Overall super happy with the room!

FoodΒ

Some of the meals I got from the hotel – left: lunch/dinner, right: brekkie! <3

I got to choose what I wanted to order from a menu every day and the food choices were quite diverse (and pretty tasty especially for quarantine food! πŸ™Œ ). There was a bit of a mix-up with food orders halfway through my quarantine (Steph who was quarantining in another room didn’t get her breakfast for 2 days in a row πŸ˜“ ) but thankfully things went back to normal afterwards.

The portion sizes were massive for breakfast but quite small for lunch and dinner. They gave us an apple during lunch and an orange during dinner every day at the start of our quarantine but switched to giving us little fruit cups or a dessert with dinner halfway through.

The food quality and portion sizes were fine for me and I didn’t end up ordering a single takeaway meal throughout my quarantine! 😍

What I did for 21 days

The hotel had yoga mats that they could lend out to guests for free but I made the mistake of not asking for one until I was a week into my quarantine. At that point, they had a waitlist for yoga mats and I only ended up getting one during my last week.

Some quarantine hotels in Hong Kong arrange virtual activities for their guests from time to time (puzzles, exercise challenges,Β charades, etc.) but my hotel didn’t and kind of left us to our own devices. I didn’t really mind since I had to work remotely from Monday-Friday and pretty much spent all my free time watching TV shows and films on Netflix haha 😝  I watched the new Gossip Girl 2021 series (not a huge fan I must say πŸ˜… So different from the original GG series and just not feeling the new vibe 😒) and finished all the episodes of Cooking with Paris in one afternoon πŸ˜‚πŸ’•

It was my birthday on my first day of quarantine (I know LOL just my luck πŸ˜‚ ) and my boyfriend and best friends were the absolute sweetest and sent me flowers and gifts πŸ˜πŸ’—Β  My mom and my boyfriend would also drop essentials off for me from time to time which really helped!2022-04-05-08.jpg (819Γ—1024)And that was pretty much it! After a lot of sleeping in, Netflix and maybe one Pilates workout (that was the best I could do really hahaha) – I was released from the hotel at midnight on Day 21! πŸŽŠπŸ’ƒ Sheraton was also super sweet and gave us all complimentary drinks at their sky lounge in celebration of the end of our quarantine hehe.

Here’s to hoping we never have to do 21 days of hotel quarantine ever again! πŸ˜πŸ’–
